CANADIAN HORSE DEFENCE COALITION RELEASES ACCESS TO INFORMATION ACT DOCUMENTS ON LES VIANDES DE LA PETITE-NATION SLAUGHTER PLANT

The following documents are with regard to an Access to Information request for Les Viandes de la Petite-Nation (LPN) slaughterhouse in Saint André-Avelin, Quebec for the following information, for the months of November and December 2015:

Details, including photographs, paperwork and correspondence regarding horses presented for slaughter at establishment #505 Les Viandes de la Petite-Nation Inc.  for the months of November and December, 2015.  Information requested includes:

  • number of horses slaughtered
  • number of pregnant mares and the number who are close to term
  • number of non-ambulatory horses
  • number of deceased horses
  • number of horses rejected and for what reasons
  • number of condemned horses and carcasses and for what reasons
  • number of horses exhibiting weather related conditions (e.g. frostbite)

These records indicate horses from both Canada and the United States were slaughtered at this plant during this time period.

The requested totals for each category were not issued, individual forms were provided instead.

A number of black and white photos were included and begin on page 429.  Caution is advised as many are extremely graphic in nature and may be upsetting to some viewers.

Portions of the documents have been exempted under sections 17, 19(l), and 20(1)(c) of the Access to Information Act.

Please note pages are shown as they appeared when received, nothing further was deleted.

Information regarding forms and import requirements for horses transported from the United States to Canada for immediate slaughter is found here.

Designated Border Ports of Entry for Feeder and Slaughter Horses Entering Canada from the United States are available here.

Please use the information in these documents for your own citizen activism – writing to MPs, sharing on Facebook, etc.  Please share to your non-horse friends as well.

Documents can be downloaded here (This is a large 165 MB file)
