I wholeheartedly agree with Tina and Melanie – PEOPLE STOP BREEDING! That is the major problem!!!! If there is not an abundance of horses – there would be none to sell to auctions/slaughter houses. I do agree tho it is a horrific thing and needs to be stopped regardless.

Just called the Airport Authority to offer my opinion that transporting live Canadian and American horses to foreign countries for slaughter is a gruesome task and asked them to stop. A very pleasant woman took my message.

Please stop shipping horses to other countries for slaughter!! These animals deserve the right to live out the rest if their lives free….please have a heart and stop this!!

This is utterly despicable. The cruelty these horses suffers is incredible! Please do not ship live horses!!!

This is so awful! Stop doing this to our beautiful horses! They have done so much for us!

  7. Why are other Comments making it thru since mine, yet i’m still awaiting modulation..?

  8. People need to quit indiscriminate breeding. What do you think is going to happen to these cute foals. They have to go somewhere as the breeders sure don’t take responsibility . So sad

  9. No horse slaughter, they are not meat and not safe to eat, we need to stop all the shipping of horse to be slaughtered in any state, no more cross the borders to be killed in a inhuman way, you take mares in foal, and mares and foals how dare you think this is okay.

    1. @ Daryl amen to that… USA has stopped shipping live animals to Asia for consumption – why are we in Canada continuing to allow this..? sue hart AB

  10. SPEAK UP! STAND UP! Googled to confirm, among many results, here is the video proof that there are horse crates. Seems to be a promotional video, so it only shows the crates – but not amount or condition of horses within each crate. Those images are available thru Google, i am not willing to dL those and have my Comments banned – which then reach nobody… Clearly the carrier is ATLAS AIR INC on behalf of CHATMAN FREEBORN the Global Aircraft Charter Specialists. US has banned the practice of transporting live horses to Asia – although this is an American based company, they continue to transport from Calgary, Canada who does not adequately regulate transportation treatment of live cargo when destined for consumption… :o(

Atlas Airlines is the carrier. Give them a call or e-mail – also the Calgary Airport Authority. Lets get this cruelty stopped!

I urge you to stop this barbaric practice,
    inhumane to the core…

  13. you are not going to stop the flow of horse meat to Japan, these horses are bred for this purpose and are rarely handled by humans. The horses were shipped on ships when the market started, at least the horses were fed and watered on the journey, perhaps push for this to come into being again

    1. The majority of the horses have not been raised for this purpose. The vast majority have docked tails which is done when a horse is to be used in harness to keep the tail from tangling in the harness. No one raising horses for meat would spend the money for something so frivolous for a horse who is destined for a dinner plate. If they had been solely raised for this purpose they would also be human-shy but video shows many, many of them approaching investigators for affection. If they are shy of humans it’s likely due to the rough handling encountered in this industry. Investigators have also seen Belgian horses in the feedlots with braids in their forelocks. This is a Mennonite custom to enhance the appearance of the horse at auction. The Amish, Mennonites and the Hutterite communities are heavy contributors to this industry with the Hutterites, yes, sadly breeding these Gentle Giants for the Japan market. The Amish/Mennonites send hundreds of Belgians, Percherons and other draft breeds through various auctions and in to the slaughter pipeline.

If this country believes in God Leviticus chapter 11 verses 1-47 clearly states it is against God’s law to eat and slaughter horses. I am shocked that Canadians are a part of a society that eats or treats and slaughter horses. I didn’t know they are so barbaric. Jamie Bailey Mt Home Arkansas

Stop this horrific disgusting transport of live animals to be slaughter overseas for human consumption where there is barely any animal rights for these poor horses! Horses are not meant to be eaten, they are a gentle beautiful animals and should be left alone in their natural habitat and not use for any financial gains! Humans are pure evil, such sickening and barbaric for these gentle animals!

  16. Roberta Smith · ·

pleae end this horror of what these innocent animals are enduring…. I’ve gone vegan 2.5 years ago and it’s a great healthy diet surely veganism it’s the way forward to end this abuse of innocent creatures

Who are we to dictate what different cultures eat. In India the cow is a blessed creature not a BBQ treat. Does that make us barbaric for enjoying a steak? Or, are you saying our culture is so evolved and “above” everyone else, that it is our duty to judge and dictate what other culture can and can’t consume? WOW, talk about a stretch.

  18. Kerry proctor · ·

    abdolutely disgusting!!! Should be ashamed!!!!

  19. We don’t eat dogs because we consider them to be pets or companion animals in our culture. We don’t eat cats because we consider them to be pets or companion animals in our culture. We don’t eat horses because we consider them to be pets or companion animals in our culture. Why are we allowing other cultures to eat our horses? Will they be shipping cats and dogs next? This needs to stop. And Melanie, slaughterhouses are not a source of humane death. The transport is one thing, but the actual consumption is the other. BOTH need to stop.

I understand there is an abundant amount of unwanted horses and closing horse slaughter places is not the fix now. The fix is to stop having so many horses bread for horse racing and etc. Until the amount if horses breed decreases PLEASE have these horses treated humainly and with respect until their untimely deaths. They deserve to be cared for properly and transported with care, food and water. It should be illigal and considered animal cruelty.

    1. Melanie, You sound like you don’t know to much about horse slaughter so the best thing you can do is check google and try to educate yourself about what has been going on for decades about the cruelty and mistreatment horses going to slaughter have been forced to endure. Your going to see a lot of lies telling the public that Canada and the US must have horse slaughter plants going full speed or the horse industry will keel over dead. The US has closed the slaughter plants but US horses are still shipped to Canada to be killed.

      1. I agree Melanie. What happens to all these unwanted horses that the breeders keep pumping out for the almighty dollar if there are no slaughter houses. It’s disgusting but what is more disgusting is people breeding just for the sake of it. They are the ones keeping the slaughter houses in business
