2014 – A Year Filled With Accomplishments

horse-and-fireworksFor the past decade, the CHDC has been a prominent voice for horses.  We are the only Canadian organization with a consistent track record of exposing the cruelty inherent in the horse slaughter industry in Canada.  We have taken you behind the closed doors of four equine slaughterhouses in our country, and have provided an inside look at atrocities occurring in crowded feedlots.  We have opened up the troubling issue of live horse transport to Japan, which involves continual violations of the Health of Animals Act.   We have worked closely with legislators in an effort to end an unnecessary, predatory business that extinguishes the lives of tens of thousands of horses every year – young and old, fit and crippled, all crowding the slaughter pipeline from every possible direction.  We have clearly demonstrated how fraudulent paperwork can accompany countless horses to slaughter, thereby permitting prohibited drugs into the food supply and putting human health at risk.

In 2014, we’ve been working hard to get the message out to the general public about horse slaughter.  This year, the CHDC blog was visited by 138 countries in all!  Most visitors came from Canada. The United States & Germany were not far behind.

The Louvre Museum has 8.5 million visitors per year. By comparison,  the CHDC blog was viewed about 110,000 times in 2014. If it were an exhibit at the Louvre Museum, it would take about 5 days for that many people to see it. We uploaded 221 pictures, taking up a total of 73 MB. That’s about 4 pictures per week. The busiest day of the year was June 6th with 2,080 views. The most popular post that day was Bouvry Exports loses major customer.

In 2014, there were 152 new blog posts, growing the total archive of our blog to 1,177 posts.

These are the blog posts that got the most views in 2014..

Our YouTube channel – Defendhorsescanada, is closing in on 600,000 views to-date.  Our most popular video,  One Horse’s Last Steps,  has been viewed over 315,000 times!  To see more highlights of the year,  please check out Storify for news articles on horse slaughter around the world,  in chronological order.

From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for your past support, as it has been through your kindness and generosity that horse slaughter has been brought to the public eye and to the attention of lawmakers and politicians.  In 2015 and beyond, CHDC will continue to serve the horses and our supporters.  We have numerous projects launched, new ones to tackle, and we ask for your support once again.

Please consider making a contribution to the Canadian Horse Defence Coalition that will assist us in reaching our goal of ending horse slaughter once and for all in Canada.

I admire you, am grateful to you & going to donate right now.
I live in the barbaric province of Quebec & am altogether ashamed of being Canadian when it comes to the very animals that did the most for human civilization; shameful!
I have saved my own Standardbred from that very fate; My amazing Playboy is with me since 7 years.
May you touch many more souls in the year to come.

Thanks for all your hard work. 2015 will be better. Just wait until there is a change of government here in Canada. You will get a bill passed. We now know which party is behind you. Cheers. Happy New Year.
