Bill C-571 – REMINDER!

There’s not much time left!  This Bill will be up for debate this MONDAY, MAY 12TH!

Your MP needs to hear from you as to why the Bill needs their support.

After Monday the House will vote on whether  the bill goes forward or dies.

LPN holding pen 11-Jul-11Passing 571 will put an end to slaughter for the vast majority of horses who suffer that fate currently.   With so few being eligible for slaughter this could effectively end the industry in Canada.

With MP Atamanenko retiring next year action now is critical as there haven’t been any other MPs who have come forward to champion for horses at risk.

This is the first and likely the last Canadian legislation going before the House for a very long time that actually addresses this issue!

Once this last hour of debate is over, there will be nothing forthcoming for the horses for possibly years to come!!!

For our friends in the US, you can help too!  Tell the Canadian Ambassador to the US, Gary Doer,  that you will not visit Canada until horse slaughter is history.  You can also send messages to the US Ambassador in Ottawa, Bruce Heyman  and tell him that most of the horses slaughtered in Canada are from the US!

Also, please copy the following with any correspondence that you send to your MP or the Ambassadors.

Please go here to find your MP.  You can also find your MP using HSI’s online petition form here.

The horses thank you!

Reblogged this on Pass the SAFE Act!.

  2. I feel that horse slaughter is cruel and must be stopped. The horses are shipped to slaughter in over packed trucks where they are often already trampled to death or injured, including the foals or pregnant mares, this is inhumane and cruel, so is the entire slaughter process. Please end this now.

Horse slaughter needs to end now they are not raised or regulated as food. The meat is tainted with bute and other stuff we have to give them and it is cruel and inhumane to slaughter horses.

Horse slaughter proponents would have you believe that ending horse slaughter would be catastrophic for industry. This is not so. The slaughter plants in Canada would not shut down resulting in job loss. They would merely move over to killing some other poor species. There would be very little, if any, job loss.
Financially, the dead horse industry is only worth about $90 million and that goes to the auction houses, kill buyers and slaughter plants.
The support of LIVE horses, on the other hand, is in the billions. You can see that here. https://canadianhorsedefencecoalition.files.wordpress.com/2014/05/economic_impact_cda.pdf
