Montreal SPCA Campaign to help carriage horses

On 22 July 2013, in News, by S.P.C.A.

In October 2012, following allegations of cruelty, two carriage horses were surrendered to Montreal’s SPCA by their owner. We want to let everyone know that they are doing very well with their adoptive families where they can spend time outdoors, socializing with other horses and receiving the care and attention they need. Captain Bob is resting and enjoying the country in the Laurentians with several other horses.

BJ2While Black Jack (picture – left) is very happy in the Saguenay region with his new family… he even has female friend! Black Jack is very sensitive to the heat … probably because of what he experienced when pulling carriages. Now, on days too hot for him, he can relax inside the stable where it’s cool, after having a good refreshing shower.

I know several organizations have been working in New York for several years to ban carriage horses and replace them with vintage cars but I haven’t heard much about it the past year or so. The horses was stabled in old tenement buildings that are firetraps.

Carriage horses have just been licensed in Penticton British Columbia. Now we can add that cruelty to the treatment of the wild/feral horses of the area!

It might help if you start a petition on or care2 causes that will get the message to the people who can make the change and end this terrible abuse to horses.

  4. I’m very happy for Captain Bob and Black Jack, now let’s work on getting other carriage horses to a better, safer and healthier home 😉
