EWA (Chicago) – USDA data for the first quarter of 2013 indicates a precipitous drop in the number of horses going from the US to Mexico for slaughter. The flow of horses south had been increasing steadily for over two years but dropped 62% between the first full week of 2013 and the end of the first quarter.

The auctions are the best places to watch for what’s really happening, as well as the larger lots such as Billings Livestock up north and Chavez’s lot down south. Let’s not kid ourselves – we know their words are worthless, as are their contracts.
Thought that both Mexico and Canada have to abide by EU standards. Apparently, there is a gaping hole in the standards if Mexico does not test for Bute. What else don’t they do? What is happening to the horses in the mean time?
Praise God! At last there is hope that our American horses will not be exported or slaughtered. Always in my prayers until they are all safe.
Terrific news. Let’s hope it continues until there is NO market anywhere.
