Go and Play Stable, a local project that rescues and rehabilitates harness-racing standardbred horses, will host Horse Play, a comedy-night fundraising event at the Montreal House Wednesday night.

Doors will open at 7 p.m., with the 90-minute show, featuring three stand-up comics, beginning at 8 p.m.

Operated by former groom and dressage, cross-country and jumping rider Sara Merriam and her mother, Patti, Go and Play has rescued about 30 horses over the last three years, said Julie Craib, one of eight volunteers.

The stable, at Hwy. 28 and County Road 4 in Douro-Dummer, relies on Sara Merriam’s contacts in the horse industry to find its equine clients.

The stable accepts horses surrendered by owners and trainers.
