Ontario racehorses slaughtered for meat – vet says

An equine veterinarian near Windsor, Ont., says thousands of horses have been slaughtered for meat in the wake of Ontario’s decision to end the Slots at Racetracks Program.

Mark Biederman estimates 50 per cent of the province’s nearly 4,000 broodmares have been or will be slaughtered.

It is a real problem and the only way we can even try to combat this is through legislation; that means really working on getting signatures on the petition to support Alex Atamanenko’s bill to end horse slaughter. It means contacting local and federal MPPs and MPs and telling them your opinion on this matter.

As long as there are people who breed indiscriminately, because there is an easy solution to get rid of unwanted horses, there will be slaughter houses.

Might I add that this NEVER happened. Mark, Again, allows rumour to become HIS facts.

Might I suggest that before you open a horse breeding business or even own one horse, that you know what your costs will be and are responsible for that animal or animals welfare. I would euthanize my horses before even thinking about sending them to Horse Slaughter, even if it meant I had to go hungry. I find it hard to believe that these breeders did not have the money to end their horses lives with some kind of dignity. They just figured they could make an extra buck rather than putting out any money or having to deal with the disposal of those horses that made their lives so sweet for so many years. You people suck. I can’t describe how much you suck; but I wish for you the same suffering and pain in your death, that you bestowed on your companion animals.

We live in a sick world. This isn’t something that happens over night. Breeders and owners knew their industry was in trouble. but kept on breeding knowing there was an easy way out. All that drug contaminated meat will make someone a quick profit and someone else sick if they eat enough of it.

HOW I DETEST THIS EVIL GREEDY SICCK CRUEL WORLD FOR ANIMALS !! THE HUMAN HAS YET TO EVOLVE AND RESPECT LIFE IN WHATEVER FORM ITS IN !

  4. I forgot to say I think breeders in the USA are also sending their broodmares to slaughter and have been for years. I also think horses are being bred for slaughter here but it’s being done quietly so as to not arouse anyone’s anger and have to deal with marchers in front of their property.

  5. It won’t end in the US either unless it can be stopped in the Senate. Passing both anti-slaughter bills is the only way to bring it to a halt but that will never happen.

Amen to that as long as there is overbreeding slaughter is the sad fate for the horses racing for their lives.

  6. It will never end as long as these asshats have a way of dumping them!
