CHDC Directors Denise Lockhart and Shelley Grainger manned the booth at the Lindsay All About Horses Fair on May 28th and 29th. They were joined by Lainie Fairweather of Hilltop Haven Horse Rescue (www.hilltophavenequinerescue.com )and local talented artist Gail Hendricks who brought along copies of her work for sale.
The show was well attended, especially this year due to the Extreme Rodeo events that took place in the main show ring.
We set up Meadowlarke Stables’ backdrop display of pictures of horses saved from slaughter who have been rehabilitated and are now enjoying successful new careers with loving owner. This display was well received as it was at the Everything Equine Fair in Uxbridge a couple of weeks ago.
People were especially drawn to Hilltop Haven’s display board showing Before and After pictures of horses saved and rehabilitated by Lainie Fairweather. Her encouraging stories of happy endings for otherwise neglected and abused horses touched the hearts of everyone who spoke to her and saw the pictures.
Overall we are pleased to report that most people were very supportive. Over the course of the two days the number of signatures on the petition for anti-slaughter legislation grew steadily. Between both shows 70 signatures were collected. Let’s hope these 70 people each reach out to a few more people helping the momentum to grow!
If you have an equine fair happening in your area, and would like to have a display table to support the CHDC and promote the anti-slaughter, pro-horse message, please contact the CHDC at info@defendhorsescanada.org so that we can help you in your efforts.
We believe these local shows are an excellent grass roots way of reaching out to the community, and encourage participation in these events.
For the horses,
Your friends at the CHDC

Congratulations! What a wonderful event. I wish I could have been there.
